With an alarming increase in the number of diagnosed patients, Hepatitis is a globally emerging problem. There is a dire need to address this issue with sufficient awareness about the disease, its types, mode of transmission, available vaccination, preventive measures etc. among the masses. However, what might go unnoticed here is also, the dire need to address the already diagnosed patients’ stigma, inhibitions and worries and provide constructive emotional support, guide them towards better living and enhancing the quality of life.
Liver Foundation, West Bengal has started this trend long back by inspiring patients to indulge into ART THERAPY – a creative process that can help one improve the physical, mental and emotional well-being. In addition, adequate awareness and empowerment of the patients has helped them increase their self-esteem. Now, with the availability of a digital platform, this initiative has had the privilege to take a step further. The patients can upload images of the handicrafts made by them; record videos of art therapy sessions, create blogs on facts and myths about the disease etc. but more importantly, they can interact with each other, share daily life experiences and support one another in the process. So, it has been rightly named as an e-diary where a patient can convert his/her irritation, depression regarding the disease to something more constructive and channelize all the positive energy not only towards betterment of his/her own health conditions, but as well as other fellow patients. It is an honest approach to bring the Hepatitis patients under one umbrella and offer them a platform to generate content to help others and share their e-diaries to help increase awareness.
